PORN: THE LATEST WITCH HUNT?

PORN: THE LATEST WITCH HUNT?

There are new rumblings surfacing in the media, against a time old debate. Ban Porn? This is basically the ultimate “Woke Argument” that only ends in a silly dumbass witch-hunt over nothing. But lets just stop the lynch mob for a second and put down the pitchforks and consider something:  What do we actually define as Porn? Lets not confuse it with Snuff films or Pedo-flicks. That is a whole other ballgame. You may as well compare Hitler to Mother Teresa or a massage parlour with a Torture Chamber.

But in terms of two consenting adults having sex on camera? Why not?  Its like that song. If this aint love, why does it feel so good? Porn is merely entertainment. Its all about sex, baby. Like watching movies about alcoholics, (say Dudley Moor in Arthur), or cartoons about talking dogs like Scooby Doo. It has its good points and bad points. Should we ban all films about talking dogs because of Son of Sam? Should actor Dudley Moor be reprimanded for misrepresenting alcoholics because some alcoholic father beat his kid to death? Should all the Matrix movies be banned because of Columbine? Maybe there’s something else going on here?

EDUCATIONAL ASPECTS TO PORN

Porn’s appeal really depends on how you look at it and that opinion is formed based on how comfortable one is about having sex. Factors such as how much sex you’ve had (if ever), who you had sex with and whether it was a good experience or not. The swinging factor is really about sex education. Plenty of couples watch porn to get ideas. And maybe that’s really what porn is all about, it teaches couples on how to have good sex.

There was even a popular book in the 1970s called ‘The Joy of Sex’, (essentially a Haynes Car Manuel but with pictures of couples having sex),  which might be considered by todays Woke generation as immoral.

THE EVOLUTION OF PORN

Yet traditional Porn is as old as the drawn image itself. When the Victorians dug up Pompeii, they were outraged by the sexually explicit roman murals they found - deeming them obscene by their own so called 'modern day standards'. Yet during the 1960’s  these standards were challenged to the point that by the 70’s & 80’s, porn films became widely accepted as entertainment, which developed into many sub genres, from the frivolities of later Carry On Films to the more racy Confessions of a Window Cleaner and even big budget movies such as Caligula. Sexual repression in Europe sparked a movement of Italian sexploitation films in the late 60's and 70's (usually Horror Flicks) that were essentially soft porn narratives, to address the aggressive sexual taboos of the times. Around this point, film critic Barry Norman was quite outspoken about the porn industry, describing the good old fashioned porno flick as two people (or more) being rather nice to each other and why not?

THE LATEST WITCH HUNT

But in this age of being Woke, everyone’s trying to pull The Witch-Hunt card on some level or other. We’ve had witch-hunts for paedophiles in the television industry, witch-hunts in the music industry and so on. Courtesy of Operation Yew Tree, celebrities such as Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris have been exposed for abusing their position. Michael Jackson was suddenly a pedo too or so the story goes. Then there’s Harvey Weinstein of course. And more recently Q’anon have got it in for all big celeb child molesters in Hollywood.

So in essence we’ve gone on witch-hunt overdrive. Looking for the bad in everything. Even the things that once gave us pleasure. So if you watch Porn Hub you must be a pervert and probably fiddle small kids. I’ll turn myself in now then.

ROOT CAUSES

But wait! Surely banning all Porn is like cutting off the head, just to cure the headache right? No. sorry. All porn is evil apparently and if you watch it, you are in league with the devil or some shit. Still, there are some rational wankers out there (like myself) that might consider what is causing the headache in the first place, such as poverty, austerity, lack of sex education etc. Ban Pornography and peoples sexual frustrations fester and become a problem. Look at Jack the Ripper.

What we need is to address the root problems of society. And then maybe we wouldn’t have to look at porn in the first place. We’d all be doing it, instead of watching it. Well, maybe that’s just me. My point is, Porn is just a symptom of our messed up society. If the aliens land 2moro they’d laugh their green asses off.

TRIBAL PORN

On that note, there were (and perhaps still is) certain remote tribes where sex was merely a formality, where genital clothing was considered unimportant, thus such tribes walked around naked on a daily basis. They had no conception of rape or porn. They might think our westernised interest in such things laughable by their own standards. But as the word of god spread outwards (by various pale Victorian Missionaries), so too was the idea that casual sex (for the mere pleasure it brings), was disgusting and immoral in the eyes of God. But more importantly, in the eyes of authoritarians.

SEXUAL REPRESSION

And to this day, because of such authoritarians, it only perpetuates a society that is sexually repressed, by stating that Pornography (particularly on such web sights as Porn Hub etc), are to be considered sleazy filth and contribute to child trafficking and the abuse of women. Thus some countries (eg: Afghanistan, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Yemen etc)  still enslave virgin women into arranged marriages. In some cases, infidelity is a stoning offence. While sexually repressed men are allowed to run rampant, driven to unspeakable acts upon women, maddened by what they see on Porn Hub, which ultimately is not to blame. You might as well blame every horror film for every murder committed. And like any industry, there will always be sexual harassment, in one form or another. Actresses in particular have all found themselves in one predicament or another, where they were faced by a sexual predator. Look at Tippi Hedren and Alfred Hitchcock’s obsession with her. So should we ban all Hitchcock films? Negating all the thousands of people who worked really hard on those movies,  including Tippi Hedren? Where is the line drawn?

PORN BAN VS PROHIBITION

So it is no surprise when  sexually repressed men become like rabid dogs on heat, after watching Porn, which potentially leads such men to rape and so on. But Porn in itself, is not the cause of rape, but like alcohol, is a catalyst that drives certain ‘unstable’ individuals to rape and murder. So we might as well ban alcohol too.

In fact didn’t we do just that?  Not that I have to remind anyone but wasn’t  alcohol actually banned between 1920 to 1933 in the USA?  Because certain authoritarians saw it as disgusting and immoral and they made it illegal? And was it not also true, that the ban (called Prohibition) drove the sale of liquor underground, into the hands of gangsters and caused the crime rate to skyrocket? Maybe I just imagined that. Imagine too if we band driving lessons because we felt it obscene? How would we ever learn to drive a car? Its the same with learning good sex skills to communicate with your partner.

SEXLESS SOCIETY

George Orwell pretty much summed it up in his novel 1984, where Big Brother attempted to even make the orgasm itself illegal. Don’t let it happen folks. But all this can be twisted into sleaze. All I write can either be interpreted as one thing or another. There is not one truth but many. And if anything, porn merely challenges archaic religions and rituals of authority, it is a reaction to a sexless society made up of drones working 24/7. It challenges the norm that is forever prevalent on your television and breaks its hypnotic spell. Without porn, we likely wouldn’t have sexual education at all, because it pushes the barriers, that many consider a taboo and inappropriate subject for discussion.

So then imagine if we banned Porn? Because somebody with an agenda, will always use Porn as a scapegoat, citing child trafficking, drug rings, abused actresses etc And so Porn will eventually be banned. Its inevitable. But consider the consequences. We would just play into the hands of corrupt officials looking for promotion, we would merely aid idiotic politicians careers, (to snag votes or win elections) while simultaneously fuelling the very underground child trafficking programs, we are trying to stop.

As stated, Porn is just entertainment and like any entertainment its sometimes educational or just plain bad. But ultimately you learn something from it. Plus how else can you pull off a 69’er without breaking your neck, unless you've seen Debbie Does Dallas?
